Terms of Service

Last updated 25 October 2026

Agreement

These terms govern your use of Osteon, an independent study tool for orthopaedic residents operated from the United States. When prompted, you must review these terms and choose “Agree and continue” before using the study service. If you do not agree, do not use Osteon.

What Osteon is — and is not

Osteon is an educational study aid. Its questions, references, narrations, and AI-generated responses are for exam preparation and general learning only.

It is not medical advice and must not be used to diagnose or treat any patient. Always rely on primary sources, institutional protocols, and your own clinical judgement. Content may contain errors, may be out of date, and AI features can produce confident but incorrect answers — verify anything you intend to act on.

Osteon is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the ABOS, or any body that administers the OITE. We do not guarantee any examination result.

Your account

You sign in through the account options offered by Osteon. You are responsible for activity under your account and must keep access to it secure. Accounts are for one person — do not share credentials with others. You must be at least 16 years old.

Free access during launch

Osteon is currently free to use during the individual pilot. Individual access is free through June 30, 2027. A subscription is required afterward. No automatic charges. We will show you the price and applicable purchase terms before you choose to buy. Creating an account does not authorize future charges.

If you previously made a purchase, its agreed terms and your cancellation and refund rights remain in place. You can manage it from your account and read the terms for previous purchases.

Institutional users and program reporting

Institutional users are individuals whose Osteon accounts are connected to a residency program or other participating institution. By accepting these Terms, you agree that, if you join an institutional program, progress reporting to that institution’s authorized coordinator is part of your membership. Individual users who have not joined a program do not share their study progress with an institution.

Privacy · Terms · Support · support@osteon.app

Osteon is an independent study tool, not affiliated with the AAOS or the OITE.

Institutional reports include study totals, question accuracy, topics read, reading time, Learn progress, lecture progress, Rapid Review completion, and last study date from enrollment onward. Earlier personal study activity, personal notes, individual answers, AI chats, and billing details are excluded. Reporting requires active program access and continues during membership without a separate reporting opt-in. Existing optional-sharing arrangements retain their original terms.

Your coordinator manages your roster membership, including graduation and removal. You cannot leave the institutional roster or start an individual subscription while you remain on it. Expiration pauses institutional access and reporting but preserves the roster, so payment can restore coverage for its members. Once your coordinator removes you, institutional access and reporting end and you may subscribe individually using the same account and study history. Contact your coordinator or support for an incorrect roster entry. General free-launch access remains available while enabled. Coordinators must use reports for educational support; practice activity and accuracy are not validated measures of clinical competence or predicted exam scores.

Residency program pilot

Invited coordinators may claim a program profile if authorized by their institution. The academic-year pilot provides free access from the date the profile is claimed through June 30, 2027. This fixed end date applies to all participating programs. Residents and attendings who join later receive access through that same end date. No payment card is required and the pilot does not automatically renew into a paid plan. A coordinator may explicitly arrange an annual plan and save payment details before the pilot ends; the first paid period and its charge or annual invoice are scheduled for July 1, 2027 (midnight Pacific). A program that purchases after this date begins its paid term when checkout completes or its annual invoice is issued. All resident and attending roster entries, including invitations, reserve a seat until removed. There is no enrollment cap. Roster changes affect the next annual bill at the agreed per-seat rate, with no midyear charges or credits. General free-launch access remains available while enabled.

Keep invitations private, invite only people affiliated with your program, and use study reports for educational support. Practice activity and accuracy are not validated assessments of clinical competence or predicted exam scores. For coordinator changes or an incorrect program contact, email support@osteon.app.

Residency program plans

Program purchases cover annual resident and attending seats. For a coordinator-managed pilot roster, seat quantity follows the roster, including invitations until removed; changes affect the next annual bill without midyear charges or credits. The price, volume discount, seat count, and annual total are shown before purchase. Program discounts apply each year at the price saved with your order and do not combine with referral discounts or referral rewards.

Card plans renew automatically each year until canceled. Invoice plans issue an annual invoice due in 30 days until canceled. For pilot conversions, the first annual billing date is the pilot end date, with no charge for the remaining free period. For invoice plans, the annual term begins when the invoice is issued; access beyond the pilot activates after payment. Cancel renewal from the program dashboard or contact support@osteon.app. Removing or reassigning a resident does not reduce the purchased quantity or issue a refund.

The program manager must be authorized to purchase for the institution. Each resident uses their own account and accepts an email invitation. The manager can see invited email addresses and acceptance status, and can remove program access; new residency-program members share the enrollment-only progress described above. Legacy seats retain their original privacy arrangement. Removal preserves the resident’s study history. Accepting a program seat does not automatically cancel a resident’s existing personal subscription.

Subscriptions, trials, and billing

Access is sold as a subscription for a fixed term (monthly, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year). Prices are shown on the plans page before you buy.

Free trial. Where a trial is offered, you choose a plan at the start and the trial runs for the stated number of days. When it ends, that plan begins and your payment method is charged for the first term unless you cancel before the trial ends. One trial per person.

Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each term at the then-current price, until cancelled.

Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your account page or by emailing support@osteon.app. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access through the end of the term you have already paid for.

Refunds. Terms already begun are generally non-refundable, since the free trial exists so you can evaluate the product first. If something has gone wrong, write to us — we would rather sort it out than argue about it.

Payments are handled by our payment processor. We may change prices, but not for a term you have already paid for; we will give notice before a change affects a renewal.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use content in violation of the Content and ownership provisions below;
  • share your account or give others access through your account;
  • attempt to bypass access restrictions, access other users' data, or interfere with the service;
  • use automated tools to extract content, or use the AI features to bulk-generate it;
  • submit patient information or protected health information.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. Where the breach is inadvertent and fixable, we will contact you first.

Content and ownership

Osteon reserves all rights it holds in the service and its content, including its software, branding, and the selection, organization, and presentation of educational materials, to the extent protected by applicable law.

Your account provides personal, non-transferable access for your own study, subject to these terms. Except as expressly permitted by Osteon or applicable law, you agree not to scrape, bulk-download, redistribute, republish, sell, or commercially exploit content obtained through the service, or use it to create or populate another question bank, a commercial or publicly distributed dataset, or a competing educational product. Downloads expressly provided by Osteon are permitted.

Access does not transfer ownership or grant rights beyond those expressly stated. Third-party rights remain with their respective owners.

Your study data belongs to you. You can request an export or deletion at any time.

Availability

We aim to keep Osteon available continuously but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Features may change, and we may modify or discontinue parts of the product. If we discontinue the service entirely while you hold a paid term, we will refund the unused portion.

Disclaimers and liability

Osteon is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of content.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including any examination outcome or clinical decision. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the current version, and we will notify you of material changes by email or in the app. For material changes, we will ask you to review and accept the updated terms before continuing to use the study service. Routine sign-ins do not require accepting the same version again.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here removes any right you have to bring a claim in small claims court, or any consumer protection right you cannot waive under the law where you live.
